Target Information
Synaptogyrins are a family of tyrosine-phosphorylated membrane proteins with two neuronal (SYNGR1 and SYNGR3) and one ubiquitous (SYNGR2) members.
SYNGR1 and SYNGR3 are synaptic vesicle proteins involved in neurotransmitter release regulation, sometimes co-localized on the same vesicle.
SYNGR2 is absent from synaptic vesicles, and the role of SYNGR4 remains unclear.
The SYNGR1 gene is located at chromosome 22q13, a region linked to schizophrenia, though evidence of direct association remains mixed.
