ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1)는 전사 억제 인자로 작용하며, interleukin-2 (IL-2) 유전자 발현을 억제합니다. 또한 ATP1A1 유전자의 프로모터 활성에 영향을 주며, E-cadherin 프로모터를 억제하고 SMARCA4/BRG1을 모집하여 상피-간엽 전이(EMT)를 유도합니다.
ZEB1은 CTBP1 코리프레서 존재 시 BCL6 전사를 억제하고, 신경분화 과정에서 RCOR1 전사 활성화를 억제합니다. 유전자 돌연변이는 각막이상증 및 Fuchs 내피이상증과 관련이 있습니다.
