Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins, including R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies, exhibit 30–60% homology with Ras p21. Rab proteins play key roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport, mediating vesicle movement from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi complex and secretory vesicles. In yeast, the SEC4 protein, which is 40% homologous to Rab proteins, is associated with secretory vesicles, suggesting Rab proteins also direct exocytosis to the plasma membrane.
