Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that regulate vesicular transport. Each RAB protein targets multiple proteins involved in exocytic and endocytic pathways.
The RAB7 gene encodes a protein that regulates vesicle traffic in late endosomes and from late endosomes to lysosomes. It is also involved in cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori.
Mutations in conserved residues of this gene are linked to certain forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
