Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is a protein encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene in humans. It is mapped to chromosome 1p36.33 and encodes a member of the TNF-receptor superfamily. The receptor shows increased expression upon T-cell activation and plays a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance via CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. Knockout studies in mice indicate its involvement in CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
