Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Mnk1 only when phosphorylated at Thr250.

Target Information

The Map kinase-interacting kinases (MKNK1 and MKNK2) are activated by Map kinases and regulate protein synthesis by phosphorylation of eIF4E on Ser209. They may contribute to tumorigenesis. Overexpression of Mnk2 increases phosphorylation of endogenous eIF-4E, indicating its role as an eIF-4E kinase in vivo. Mnk2 may also be involved in responses to environmental stress and cytokines. Expression of active MNK1 and MNK2 mutants in 293 cells reduces cap-dependent translation relative to cap-independent translation. Human Mnk2 shares approximately 94% identity with murine Mnk2 and 71% with human Mnk1. In vitro phosphorylation studies show Mnk2 is a better substrate than Mnk1 for Erk2, p38MAPKα, and p38MAPKβ.
