Target Information
PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways. It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT). PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and helps determine tumor proliferation status.
It is localized in the nucleus, functions as a homotrimer, and acts as a cofactor of DNA polymerase delta to enhance leading strand synthesis. Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
