Target Information
PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and plays a role in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways. It interacts with the CDK inhibitor p21, structure-specific endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA is a valuable marker for proliferative cells and tumor prognosis, expressed during early G1 and S phases of the cell cycle. It acts as a nuclear cofactor for DNA polymerase delta, forming a homotrimer that enhances leading strand synthesis.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in RAD6-dependent DNA repair. Two transcript variants encode the same protein, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
