Target Information
NUCB2 was initially identified as a calcium-binding protein containing EF hand motifs that interact with Necdin, a growth suppressor expressed primarily in postmitotic neurons. NUCB2 is a secreted protein cleaved into three major peptide products—Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, and Nesfatin-3. Among these, Nesfatin-1 suppresses food intake independently of leptin. Studies suggest NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 may also play roles in energy homeostasis and neuroendocrine regulation.
