Target Information

PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) protects cells from mitochondrial dysfunction through autophosphorylation activity affecting mitochondrial genes. The kinase domain of PINK1 is crucial for its protective effects. Mitochondrial proteins regulate cellular energy and stress adaptation, particularly in brain cells with high energy demands. Dysfunction of mitochondrial structure or function in the brain can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
