Target Information
Crystallins are separated into two classes: taxon-specific (enzyme) and ubiquitous. The ubiquitous class constitutes the major proteins of the vertebrate eye lens, maintaining transparency and refractive index.

The CRYBB2 gene, a beta basic group member, is part of a cluster with beta-A4, beta-B1, and beta-B3. Mutations in this gene can cause type 2 cerulean cataracts.
