Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single-chain precursor and subsequently cleaved into a light and heavy chain. Mature MPO is a tetramer composed of two light and two heavy chains. This enzyme produces hypohalous acids central to neutrophil microbicidal activity.
Diseases associated with MPO include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
