Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx contains six members classified into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx groups. Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys subgroup, while the other five 2-Cys Prxs exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH. Mammalian Prxs (20–30 kDa) differ in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; Prx V in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
