Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key component of the autophagy pathway and plays an important role in apoptosis. It participates in mitochondrial quality control, regulation of innate antiviral responses, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation with ATG12, ATG5 contributes to autophagosome formation and interacts with FADD to mediate autophagic cell death. The ATG5-ATG12 conjugate also associates with RIG-I and VISA, inhibiting type I interferon production and facilitating viral replication.
Dysfunction of ATG5 is associated with spinocerebellar ataxia.
