Target Information
Phospholipase A2 catalyzes the release of fatty acids from glycero-3-phosphocholines. The digestive enzyme forms are secreted as zymogens by the mammalian pancreas and show strong homology to snake venom phospholipases. Other forms of PLA2 are found in various tissues, including brain, liver, lung, spleen, intestine, macrophages, leukocytes, erythrocytes, inflammatory exudates, chondrocytes, and platelets.
