Target Information

The DUSP1 gene expression is induced in human skin fibroblasts by oxidative or heat stress and growth factors.
It encodes a protein structurally similar to non-receptor-type protein-tyrosine phosphatases and shares sequence similarity with a Tyr/Ser-protein phosphatase from the vaccinia virus H1 gene.
The bacterially expressed and purified DUSP1 protein exhibits intrinsic phosphatase activity, specifically inactivating mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase by dephosphorylating both phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine residues.
DUSP1 also suppresses MAP kinase activation by oncogenic ras in Xenopus oocyte extracts, suggesting its role in cellular stress response and negative regulation of proliferation.
