Target Information
Influenza viruses consist of three types (A, B, and C), belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family. These viruses affect both birds and mammals, forming roughly spherical particles with a viral envelope containing glycoproteins hemagglutinin and neuraminidase. The influenza genome comprises seven to eight segments of negative-sense RNA, each encoding different viral proteins.
Two non-structural proteins, NS1 and NS2, are translated from one RNA segment using different reading frames. Influenza A virus NS2 localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm and is essential for nuclear export of viral ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes.
