Target Information

SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It associates with cytoplasmic regions of various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction and is involved in cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.

In humans, the SRC gene is located on chromosome 20. Activity is regulated by two tyrosine residues (Tyr416 and Tyr527), with phosphorylation of Tyr416 increasing activity and Tyr527 decreasing it. Mutations in SRC may contribute to malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
