Background
This gene encodes a protein belonging to the serine/threonine protein kinase family. It contains an N-terminal kinase domain and a conserved calmodulin-binding domain similar to that of DAPK1, a positive regulator of programmed cell death. Overexpression of this gene induces apoptosis and utilizes multiple polyadenylation sites. [RefSeq, Jul 2008]
