Background
This gene belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors characterized by a distinct DNA-binding forkhead domain. Although the specific function has not been fully determined, it is known to play a role in embryonic and ocular development. Mutations in this gene are associated with various glaucoma phenotypes, including primary congenital glaucoma, autosomal dominant iridogoniodysgenesis anomaly, and Axenfeld-Rieger anomaly.
