Cellular Localization

Nucleus, cytoplasm (cytosol), cell projection (cilium), cytoskeleton (cilium basal body). Also found at the ciliary tip (PubMed:24797473). Nuclear localization observed with GFP-tagged construct in transfected HeLa cells (PubMed:12103360, PubMed:19185282). Isoform 2 shows predominant cytoplasmic localization with N-terminally GFP-tagged construct.

Background

Eukaryotic protein kinases are enzymes belonging to a large family sharing a conserved catalytic core common to both serine/threonine and tyrosine kinases. The ICK gene encodes an intestinal serine/threonine kinase with a dual phosphorylation site found in mitogen-activating protein (MAP) kinases. The protein localizes to the intestinal crypt region and plays a key role in epithelial cell proliferation and differentiation. Alternative splicing at this locus produces two variants encoding the same isoform (RefSeq, Jul 2008).
