Background
Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome.
