Target Information
S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (AHCY) catalyzes the reversible hydrolysis of S-adenosylhomocysteine (AdoHcy) to adenosine (Ado) and L-homocysteine (Hcy). It regulates intracellular S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) concentration, which is important for transmethylation reactions. Deficiency in this protein can cause hypermethioninemia. AHCY belongs to the adenosylhomocysteinase family.
