Target Information
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABP) are small (~13–14 kDa) intracellular proteins with high tissue specificity. FABPs bind long-chain fatty acids and play a key role in intracellular fatty acid utilization. There are at least six distinct FABP types, each with specific tissue expression patterns. Due to their small size, FABPs leak from damaged cells, increasing serum levels. Liver FABP is a sensitive marker for liver cell damage and useful for detecting hepatocyte lysis and tissue injury in toxicology and transplantation studies.
