Target Information
Chromatin organization plays a fundamental role in regulating transcription in eukaryotic cells. The nuclear receptor corepressor (N-CoR) and silencing mediator of retinoid and thyroid hormone receptors (SMRT) participate in transcriptional repression pathways by recruiting histone deacetylases (HDACs) to form repressive chromatin.
HDAC3 is the main HDAC associated with N-CoR and SMRT complexes, essential for repression. TBLR1, a WD-40 repeat protein, also associates with these complexes. Although TBLR1 is considered a core component of both N-CoR and SMRT complexes, its precise role remains to be elucidated.
