Product Specific Information

Intact IgG appears on a non-reducing gel as a ~150 kDa band, and upon reduction generates a ~25 kDa light chain band and a ~50 kDa heavy chain.

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. The expression systems are developed by cloning the specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.

Advantages of recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies:

  • Better specificity and sensitivity
  • Lot-to-lot consistency
  • Animal origin-free formulations
  • Broader immunoreactivity to diverse targets due to larger rabbit immune repertoire

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a polypeptide hormone acting primarily in the nervous system, promoting neurotransmitter synthesis and neurite outgrowth in specific neuronal populations. It serves as a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes and may help reduce tissue destruction during inflammatory attacks.

A mutation in this gene causing aberrant splicing leads to ciliary neurotrophic factor deficiency, though not directly linked to neurologic disease. A read-through transcript variant composed of ZFP91 and CNTF sequences has been identified but is thought to be non-coding. Similar read-through transcription has been observed in mouse.
