This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD7, a 40 kD type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on peripheral blood T lymphocytes, NK cells, hematopoietic progenitors, monocytes (weakly), and also on acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Target Information

CD7 (gp40, Leu9) is a 40 kDa member of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. The N-terminal amino acids (1–107) are highly homologous to Ig kappa-L chains, while the carboxy-terminal region is proline-rich and forms a stalk projecting the Ig domain.
CD7 is expressed on most immature and mature T lymphocytes and T cell leukemia cells, as well as on NK cells, a subset of B cells, and malignant B cells.
Cross-linking of surface CD7 modulates T cell and NK cell activity, influencing calcium fluxes, adhesion molecule expression, cytokine secretion, and proliferation.
CD7 associates with phosphoinositol 3-kinase, and ligation induces D-3 phosphoinositide production and tyrosine phosphorylation.
Expression of CD7 serves as an important marker in leukemia diagnostics.
