Target Information
AXL is a chronic myelogenous leukemia-associated oncogene also linked to colon cancer and melanoma. The AXL protein is a receptor tyrosine kinase that transduces extracellular signals into the cytoplasm by binding growth factors such as GAS6. It is involved in cell proliferation and apoptotic cell clearance. Mice lacking TAM receptors exhibit degenerative and autoimmune phenotypes similar to systemic lupus erythematosus. Axl may also serve as an entry receptor for filoviruses and is used as a marker for specific human dendritic cell subpopulations. Expression can be upregulated by TLR ligands (e.g., LPS, poly I:C), and soluble Axl levels may indicate inflammation or cancer.
