Target Information
Cystatin superfamily는 여러 cystatin 유사 서열을 포함하는 단백질들을 포괄합니다. 일부 구성원은 활성 cysteine protease 억제제로 작용하며, 다른 구성원은 이러한 활성을 잃었거나 획득하지 못했습니다.
이 유전자(CSTA)는 cysteine protease 억제제로 기능하는 stefin을 암호화하며, papain 및 cathepsins B, H, L과 강한 결합을 형성합니다. 이 단백질은 keratinocytes에서 cornified cell envelope의 전구체 중 하나로, 표피의 발달과 유지에 관여합니다. 또한 stefin은 암의 예후 및 진단 도구로 제안된 바 있습니다.
