Target Information
The Lipase family is a large genetic superfamily including esterases and thioesterases. Lipase gene products are related by tertiary structure rather than primary amino acid sequence. Hepatic Lipase (HL or LIPC) plays a key role in balancing lipoprotein composition and transport in human plasma. Deficiency in Hepatic Lipase can lead to abnormal lipoprotein levels and is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). It is regulated by thyroid hormones and functions as both a triglyceride hydrolase and a ligand/bridging factor for receptor-mediated lipoprotein uptake. Hepatic Lipase localizes to endothelial surfaces of extrahepatic tissues.
