Target Information
BMP15 (also known as GDF9B) is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family, part of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily involved in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis.
BMP15 is expressed exclusively in the oocyte and acts as an oocyte-specific growth/differentiation factor involved in oocyte maturation and follicular development.
Defects in BMP15 are associated with ovarian dysgenesis type 2.
BMP15 can serve as an oogenesis marker for tracking differentiation of human amniotic fluid stem cells into oocyte-like cells.
