Target Information
The tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily consists of several type I integral membrane glycoproteins with homology in their cystine-rich extracellular domains. Members include TNF-RI, TNF-RII, and CD40. Ligands can be small secreted proteins (e.g., TNF) or type II integral membrane proteins (e.g., CD40L). Activation of TNF-R or CD40 induces nuclear translocation of NFkB. TRAF family members (TRAF1–TRAF4) are involved in this process. TRAF4, also known as CART1, is specifically expressed in breast carcinomas and localized to the nucleus in such tissues.
