Target Information

Interleukin-17A (IL-17A, CTLA-8) is a CD4+ T cell-derived cytokine that promotes inflammatory responses and is elevated in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, and transplant rejection.

IL-17A is a 32 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer (136 amino acids) belonging to the IL-17 family (IL-17A–IL-17F). It signals through the IL-17 receptor (IL-17R/CDw217).

Key biological roles:

• Produced by activated peripheral blood CD4+ T-cells
• Enhances ICAM-1 expression in human fibroblasts
• Stimulates epithelial, endothelial, and fibroblastic cells to secrete IL-6, IL-8, G-CSF, and PGE2
• Supports proliferation and maturation of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitors into neutrophils
• Induces IL-6 secretion in mouse stromal cells across species homologs
• Regulates NF-κB and MAPK activities
• Stimulates expression of IL-6 and COX-2 (PTGS2)
• Enhances nitric oxide (NO) production
