Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic four-polypeptide chain structure composed of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, ~22.5 kDa each). Kappa and lambda chains have variable and constant regions that differ antigenically. The typical kappa to lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies against the kappa or lambda light chains are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates a malignant clonal proliferation.
