Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic structure of four polypeptide chains: two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, each ~22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda light chains have variable and constant regions, distinguished by antigenic properties of the constant region.
The kappa to lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to kappa and lambda light chains are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Detection of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
