Product Specific Information
This antibody does not detect J chain in intact IgM in ELISA assays due to steric hindrance.
In Western Blotting, MA1-80527 detects J chain in IgM only under reducing conditions.
Mouse anti-human J chain antibody, clone Mc19-9, reacts with human J chain as tested by ELISA using purified human Ig fragments as the solid phase target antigen.
Target Information
J chain is a small glycopeptide synthesized by plasma cells that secrete polymeric immunoglobulins.
It is linked to IgA and IgM by disulfide bonds but can also be detected in IgG- and IgD-containing cells.
J chains are present in a large proportion of immunoglobulin-positive cells in germinal centers of the tonsil and lymph node.
B cells secrete J chain early in differentiation, persisting in cells destined to produce IgA or IgM.
