Target Information
SOX1, also known as SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 1, is a transcription factor belonging to the SRY-related HMG box family of transcription factors with a HMG box DNA-binding domain.
SOX1 promotes neuronal cell fate determination and differentiation through multiple pathways. It modulates LINE retroposons promoter activity and is involved in the development of the central nervous system, including neural and lens development.
SOX1 binds directly to the HES1 promoter to suppress transcription and attenuate Notch signaling. It also binds to beta-catenin to suppress beta-catenin-mediated TCF/LEF signaling, potentially attenuating WNT signaling.
Expression of SOX1 is mainly in embryonic tissues and moderately in brain.
