Target Information
CYP2C19 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and metabolizes various xenobiotics, including mephenytoin, omeprazole, diazepam, and barbiturates. Genetic polymorphisms cause variability in drug metabolism, resulting in poor and extensive metabolizer phenotypes.
