Product Specific Information

PA5-16509 targets MMP-9 (92 kDa Collagenase IV) in Western blot applications and shows reactivity with Guinea Pig and Human samples.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide from the middle region of human MMP-9.

Target Information

MMP9 (matrix metallopeptidase 9, also known as GELB or CLG4B) is a zinc- and calcium-dependent endopeptidase that degrades extracellular matrix proteins.
It is secreted as a 92 kDa zymogen and activated to an 82 kDa enzyme. MMP9 contains a gelatin-binding domain with three fibronectin type II units, a catalytic zinc-binding site, a proline-rich collagen-homologous domain, and a hemopexin-like domain.

MMP9 is produced by various cell types including monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, osteoclasts, and endothelial cells. It plays key roles in:

  • Inflammatory responses
  • Tissue remodeling and wound healing
  • Tumor growth and metastasis

MMP9 contributes to skin carcinogenesis and degrades type IV and V collagens. Studies indicate its involvement in IL-8-induced mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells and tumor-associated tissue remodeling. Elevated MMP9 levels are linked to progression of idiopathic atrial fibrillation and aortic aneurysm.
