Target Information
GAL4 is a transcriptional activator that regulates genes involved in galactose catabolism.
The DNA-binding domain resides within the first 74 amino acids and includes a zinc finger motif. Amino acids 1–147 bind DNA in vitro, with GAL4 (1–74) showing specific but lower affinity compared to GAL4 (1–147).
GAL4 (1–147) binds to a specific 17 bp nucleotide sequence but does not activate transcription alone. Activation requires one of two acidic activation regions:
- Activating region I (amino acids 148–238)
- Activating region II (amino acids 768–881)
