Product Specific Information

Reconstitution: We recommend that this vial be briefly centrifuged prior to opening to bring the contents to the bottom. This lyophilized protein should be reconstituted in sterile, distilled water to a concentration of 0.1-1 mg/mL. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein, such as 0.1% BSA, and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.

Storage: The lyophilized protein is stable at room temperature for 1 month, but should be kept at -20°C for long term storage, preferably desiccated. Working aliquots stored with a carrier protein are stable for at least 3 months at -20°C to -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein was isolated as a secreted factor that exhibits a growth-stimulating effect on cultured glial cells. In nervous system, this protein is produced mainly by neurons and may be important for glial cell development. Expression of the mouse homolog of this gene was found to be dependent on Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling. Mice lacking the homolog gene displayed a male-to-female sex reversal phenotype, which suggested a role in testicular embryogenesis.
