Product Specific Information

By Western blot, PA1-196-HRP detects ovalbumin at approximately 45 kDa. Multiple bands may be observed, likely due to the presence of multiple glycosylated and/or aggregated species of ovalbumin within a particular protein preparation.

Target Information

Chicken ovalbumin is the major protein in the white of the egg and a common antigen in immunological research. Egg white contains various proteins including ovalbumin, conalbumin, ovomucoid, and lysozyme. Ovalbumin belongs to the serpin family and the Ov serpin subfamily, and can cause allergic reactions in humans. It is implicated in the development of the eggshell and is found only in the mammillary bodies of decalcified shell, not distributed throughout the shell matrix. These findings suggest that ovalbumin is present during the initial phase of shell formation and becomes incorporated into the protein matrix of the mammillary bodies, though its specific role in shell mineralization remains unclear.
