Target Information
ATG10 is involved in autophagy, a process for bulk degradation of cytosolic compartments by lysosomes/vacuoles.
Autophagosome formation requires two ubiquitin-like modifications: conjugation of APG12p and modification of MAP-LC3 from soluble to membrane-bound form.
APG10 acts as an E2-like enzyme essential for these modifications, participating in ATG12–ATG5 conjugation and MAP-LC3 (MAP1LC3A) membrane association.
ATG10 is ubiquitously expressed, and the human APG10L gene is located on chromosome 5q14.2.
