This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD10 antigen (CALLA - Common Acute Lymphatic Leukemia Antigen), a 100 kDa type II integral membrane protein.
Target Information
CD10 (Common Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Antigen, CALLA) is a cell surface enzyme with neutral metalloendopeptidase activity that inactivates various biologically active peptides.
It is expressed on lymphoblastic, Burkitt’s, and follicular germinal center lymphomas, immature B cells in adult bone marrow, and cells from patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML).
CD10 is also found on breast myoepithelial cells, bile canaliculi, fibroblasts, and highly expressed on kidney and gut epithelial brush borders.
CD10 functions as a neutral endopeptidase that cleaves peptides at the amino side of hydrophobic residues, inactivating several peptide hormones including glucagon, enkephalins, substance P, neurotensin, oxytocin, and bradykinin.
It is a 100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by a single gene (>45 kb), with alternative splicing in the 5′ untranslated region producing four mRNA transcripts.
Diseases associated with CD10 dysfunction include spinocerebellar ataxia 43 and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
