Target Information

Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in capillaries and small venules at inflammation sites. This process involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including members of the selectin and immunoglobulin superfamilies.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific selectin expressed only after activation by proinflammatory cytokines. In vitro studies show IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial lipopolysaccharides induce E-selectin transcription via an NFκB-dependent signaling cascade. E-selectin is associated with endothelial cells in various inflammatory conditions.
