Target Information
SETD8 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-20 of histone H4.
H4 Lys-20 monomethylation is enriched during mitosis and serves as a tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression.
SETD8 functions mainly in euchromatin regions, contributing to silencing of euchromatic genes and proper DNA structure maintenance during mitosis.
It also plays roles in chromosome condensation and cytokinesis. Nucleosomes are preferred substrates compared to free histones.
