Product Specific Information

This antibody specifically recognizes human ER beta but does not recognize human ER alpha.

Target Information

Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ, NR3A2) is approximately 55 kDa, with multiple isoforms ranging from 36–59 kDa. Human ERβ was first cloned from testis and belongs to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors.
ERs are ligand-activated transcription factors that, upon binding estrogen, undergo conformational changes allowing dimerization and binding to estrogen response elements (EREs) in DNA. This binding regulates gene transcription through coactivator or corepressor recruitment.
There are two forms of estrogen receptor, alpha (ESR1) and beta (ESR2). ERβ binds estrogens with similar affinity to ERα, and certain ERβ isoforms can inhibit ERα activity in reproductive tissues.
ERβ is widely distributed in various tissues and functions as a tumor suppressor, implicated in prostate cancer, autism spectrum disorder, medullary thyroid carcinoma, De Quervain disease, and cardiovascular disease risk.
