Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antibody is specific for human BDNF protein. BLAST analysis indicates 100% homology with the immunizing sequence, suggesting potential cross-reactivity with BDNF from various species. Cross-reactivity with BDNF from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It is synthesized as pre-proBDNF and processed to proBDNF, which can be further cleaved to the mature 14 kDa protein. Both proBDNF and mature BDNF are biologically active and secreted in synaptic vesicles. BDNF is widely expressed in the central nervous system and acts on neurons through the TrkB receptor and, to a lesser extent, p75-NTR. It promotes neuronal survival, differentiation, memory formation, and synaptic regulation. Reduced BDNF expression has been observed in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease and may influence stress response and mood regulation.
