Target Information
PDGFRB is a receptor tyrosine kinase implicated in atherogenesis and cell transformation by the SIS oncogene. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The receptor can form homodimers or heterodimers with PDGF receptor α, depending on the bound growth factor.
The PDGFRB gene is located on chromosome 5, adjacent to the genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor, all potentially involved in 5-q syndrome.
A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12 that fuses PDGFRB (CD140b) with the ETV6 leukemia gene causes chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia.
