This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SPAG6 protein.
Target Information
Anti-sperm antibodies have been correlated with cases of unexplained infertility, suggesting a potential role in blocking fertilization. Identification and characterization of relevant sperm antigens are essential for improved diagnosis and treatment of immunologic infertility, as well as for targeted contraception research.
The SPAG6 protein localizes to the tail of permeabilized human sperm and contains eight contiguous armadillo repeats, facilitating protein–protein interactions. Mouse studies indicate its involvement in sperm flagellar motility and structural integrity maintenance.
Alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described, though only two full-length sequences are known.
